26-21 Appoint a ClerkCOUNTY OF ELGIN
By -Law No. 26-21
"BEING A BY-LAW TO APPOINT A CLERK FOR
THE CORPORATION OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN
WHEREAS pursuant to section 228(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001 S.O. 2001, c. 25, as
amended (the Municipal Act, 2001), a municipality shall appoint a Clerk responsible for
the statutory and other duties as are assigned;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the County of Elgin (the "County")
enacts as follows:
THAT Katherine Thompson be and is hereby appointed Clerk of the County
effective May 12, 2026; and
2. THAT the Clerk shall be responsible for undertaking all the statutory duties as
outlined in section 228(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001 S.O. 2001, c.25 including:
a. to record, without note or comment, all resolutions, decisions and other
proceedings of the council;
b. if required by any member present at a vote, to record the name and vote
of every member voting on any matter or question;
c. to keep the originals or copies of all by-laws and of all minutes of the
proceedings of the council;
d. to perform the other duties required under this Act or under any other Act;
and
e. to perform such other duties as are assigned by the municipality. 2001, c.
25, s. 228 (1); and
3. THAT where provisions of this By -Law are inconsistent with the provisions of any
other By -Law, the provisions of this By -Law shall prevail.
