THE
TO DEFINE THE DUTIES OF THE PROVISIONAL OFFICERS OF
Passed the 23rd July 1852
COUNTY OF ELGIN.'
WHEREAS it is expedient and necessary that the
duties of the Provisional Officers should be properly de-
fined.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Provisional
Council of the County of Elgin assembled by virtue of and
under the authority of the Upper Canada Municipal and
Territorial Divisions Act, and it is hereby enacted by
the authority aforesaid.
THAT THE Provisional Clerk shall notify all
Provisional Officers of their appointment to office with-
in ten days after their appointment - that he shall noti-
fy the Clerks of each Municipal Corporation of the several
sums required to be raised under each special and general
By-Law passed by the Provisional Council for raising taxes
that he shall attend all regular and special sittings of
the Provisional Council, record and keep a Journal of all
the proceedings of the said Council, a copy of the By-Laws
also of the Reports of the Committees and Auditors of the
said Council - he shall also attend and record the pro-
ceedings of the Building Committee.
THAT THE Provisional Treasurer shall keep his
Books of Double Entry and have two separate accounts in
his Books, namely one for every special rate and one for
the sinking fund for such debt in accordance with the re-
quirements of the seventh section of the Act 14th & 15th
Victoria Chapter 109 being the Upper Canada Municipal
Corporation Law Amendment Act of 1851, - that he shall
receive from the Municipal Collectors of the Municipal
Corporations in the County of Elgin, or other persons,
all sums of money that may belong to the Provisional
Council of the County of Elgin - that he shall pay such
sum or sums as may be ordered by Provincial Statute or
by the By-Laws or orders of the Provisional Council,
upon the Warrant under the hand of the Provisional Warden.
And on the first day of the sitting of the Provisional
Council to submit his Books and balance sheet for the
inspection of the Provisional Auditors with all vouchers
at the first meeting of Council yearly or oftener as may
be required by the said Council.

THAT THE Provisional Auditors shall examine
and audit the accounts of the Provisional Council at
such times as may be directed by the Provisional Council
