Passed 20th December 1854
WHEREAS it is expedient to provide payment for
Grand and Petit Jurors attending Courts in the County of
Elgin, under the authority and by virtue of the act four-
teenth and fifteenth Victoria Chapter fourteen entitled
"An act to provide for the payment of Petit Jurors in
Upper Canada."
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Council
of the County of Elgin that from and after the passing of
this By-Law every Grand and Petit Juror attending the Courts
mentioned in the act above cited shall receive the sum of
Five shillings per day for each days attendance at such
Courts and the further sum of six pence per mile for each
mile necessarily travelled from his usual place of resid-
ence to the Court House
BE IT THEREFORE enacted that the Sheriff shall
receive ten shillings for each pay list for Petit"and
Grand Jurors and the sum of five shillings per day for
checking the same at the opening of the Courts and certi-
fying and returning the same to the Treasurer of the County.
