COUNTY OF ELGIN
By-Law No. 39
FOR GRANTING CERTAIN SUMS OF MONEY FOR THE SUPPORT OF
COUNTY GRAMMAR SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR THE YEAR
1856, AND TO APPOINT TRUSTEES FOR TrÅ’ GRAMMAR SCHOOLS IN
THE SAID COUNTY OF ELGIN."
Passed 27th February 1856.
WHEREAS it is expedient to grant aid to the
County Grammar Schools in the County of Elgin for the
current year and to appoint Trustees for the Grammar
Schools in the said County of Elgin.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the County Council
of the County of Elgin:-
That the sum of one hundred pounds be paid to
the Treasurer of the St. Thomas County Grammar School
for the incidental expenses and towards the salary of
the Teacher for the current year.
AND IT IS FURTHER ENACTED that the sum of twelve
pounds ten shillings be paid to the Treasurer of the Vienna
County Grammar School to purchase maps and apparatus.
AND IT IS FURTrlliR enacted that John McKay and
D. J. Hughes Esquires be appointed Trustees of the St.
Thomas County Grammar School with term of office for four
years.
AND IT IS FURTHER enacted that Thomas Edison and
George Suffel Esquires be appointed Trustees of the Vienna
County Grammar School with term of office forfóur years in
place of James Weaver and T. Jenkins whose term of office
have expired. And also that G. W. Wrong Esquire be appointed
a Trustee of Vienna Grammar School in place of J. G. McKinnon
resigned.
AND IT IS FURTHER enacted that Dr. Travers and
Levi Fowler Esquire be reappointed Trustees of the Fingal
Grammar School for four years
