By-Law No. 55
TO RAISE BY ASSESSMENT THE SEVERAL SUMS REQUIRED FOR COUNTY
PURPOSES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR THE YEAR ONE THOUSAND
EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY EIGHT."
Passed 17 June 1858.
WHEREAS it is necessary and expedient to pro-
vide by a general assessment upon the rateable property
in the County of Elgin for the payment of the general
expenses of the County for the year 1858.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Coun-
cil of the County of Elgin by virtue of the Upper Canada
Municipal Corporation and Assessment Acts.-
That there shall be raised, levied and collect-
ed from all the rateable property of the County of Elgin
the sum of Thirty seven thousand one hundred and eighty
dollars for the general expenses of said County for the
current yeàr and that the same be apportioned and charged
against the several Municipalities in said County as con-
tained in schedule attached to this By-Law.
AND IT IS FURTHER enacted that the several
amounts mentioned shall be assessed, levied and collected
from all the rateable property in the several Municipalities
within the County of Elgin and the full amount paid over
to the County Treasurer as by Law directed.
