066 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 66 TO PROVIDE FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE MEMBERS OF COUNTY COUN- CIL OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR THEIR ATTENDANCE IN COUNCIL Passed March 9th 1859. WHEREAS by the 262nd Section of the Municipal Institutions Act of Upper Canada it is thereby enacted "that the Council of every County may pass By-Laws for pay- ing the Members of the Council for their attendance in Council at a rate not exceeding one dollar and fifty cents per diem." BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Cor- poration of the County of Elgin by virtue of the author- ity aforesaid that each Member of the Council shall be en- titled to receive the sum of one dollar and fifty cents for each days attendance in Council. AND BE IT FURTHER enacted that each Member of Council shall be entitled to receive the sum of ten cents per mile necessarily travelled to and from his place of residence to attend said meetings of County Council and the County Treasurer is hereby authorized to pay the same on the order of the Warden to that effect. AND IT IS ENACTED that this By-Law shall be in force and come into operation on and after the first day of the present session of Council and continue in force until repealed and that By-Law number forty heretofore passed in that behalf be and is hereby repealed.
