"TO MAKE_PROVISION FOR THE PRESERVATION AND REPAIR OF THE
COURT HOUSE AND GAOL OF THE COUNTY_OF~LGIN AND TO PROVIDE
SAME

THE FOOD,.
WHEREAS BY THE 40Jrd Section of the Act 22nd
Victoria, Chapter 54 of the Consolidated Statutes of Upper
Canada it is recited that every County Council may pass
Bylaws for erection, improving and repairing a Court House
Gaol, House of Correction, and House of Industry upon land
being the property of the Municipality and shall preserve
and keep the same in repair and provide the Food, Fuel and
other Supplies required for the same
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Corpor-
ation of the County of Elgin in Council Assembled by Virtue
and under the authority aforesaid
THAT IT SHALL be the duty of the Clerk of this
Council to advertise and receive Tenders for the supply of
wood that may be required for the Gaol and Court House of
the said County of Elgin subject to the approval of said
County Councilor a Committee thereof.
AND IT IS also enacted that all repairs required
to be done and supplies required to be provided for the Gaol
and Court House of said County be procured or performed by
order of said County Council of the County of Elgin or a
Committee thereof or other person appointed by them or said
Council for that purpose who shall certify to the due fulfil-
ment or performance of the work and delivery of the supplies
before the same shall be paid
AND IT IS also enacted that the Gaoler be paid the
sum of twenty-two cents per day for Boarding each Prisoner
confined in the Gaol and that he receive the sum of fifty
cents per doz. for washing required for the Gaol and Prisoners
confined therein.

AND IT IS also enacted that all necessary repairs
required to be done about the Gaol and Court House during
the recess of Meetings of this Council shall be ordered by
the Warden and Clerk thereof and that this Bylaw take effect
from and after the ninth day of November A.D. 1860.
