WHEREAS THE Bridge across the River Thames near
Wardsville having been carried away by a late freshet
AND WHEREAS this Council has taken into consideration
the importance and necessity that exists for the erection of
said Bridge and the great convenience to the Inhabitants of
this County which will be afforded by the erection of said
Bridge and that it is for the benefit of the inhabitants of
this County of Elgin that said Bridge should be made
AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Middlesex
having expressed their desire to appropriate the sum of one
thousand dollars towards the erection of said Bridge.
AND WHEREAS by the third subsection of the 342nd
Section of the Act 22 Victoria, chapter 54 of the Consolidated
Statutes of Upper Canada, the Council of every County is author-
ised to pass By-Laws for opening, making, preserving, improving
repairing and widening roads and bridges or other Public Com-
munications running or being between one or more Townships or
between the County and any adjoining County or City or on the
Bounds of any Town or incorporated Village within the bound-
aries of the County as the interest of the inhabitants of the
County in the opinion of the Council require to be made, pre-
served and improved.
AND WHEREAS said Bridge being situated on the River
Thames and being a public communication and on the boundary
between thei;Counties of Elgin and Middlesex this Council
deems it conducive to the interests of the inhabitants of this
County that said Communication should be maintained and improvëd
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Council of
the Corporation of the County of Elgin assembled by virtue of
the Municipal Institutions Act for Upper Canada and under the
Authority aforesaid that the sum of one thousand dollars be
appropriated by this County towards the erection of a bridge
across the River Thames at Wardsville

AND IT IS ALSO enacted that it shall be the duty of
T. W. Dobbie in connection with the Engineer of the adjoining
County of Middlesex to prepare plans and specifications of the
Works and Materials required at said Bridge and that the Warden
of the County of Elgin, the Reeve of Aldborough and the Reeve
of Southwold be appointed a committee in connection with a
committee of the County of Middlesex to receive and decide on
plans for said Bridge and be authorised to advertise and receive
and decide upon tenders for the same.
AND THE Warden of the County of Elgin is hereby auth-
orised to sign a contract and attach the County Seal thereto
on behalf of this Council in connection with the Warden of the
County of Middlesex and Reeve of Aldborough to the extent of
one thousand dollars and no more on account of said Bridge
and works connected therewith.
AND IT IS enacted that the County Treasurer is here-
by authorised to pay said sum of one thousand dollars on the
certificate of the.:Special Engineer countersigned by the Warden
that the work has been duly performed and completed according
to contract and to the satisfaction of said Special Engineer.
AND IT IS ALSO enacted that this By-Law shall have
no force and effect until a By-Law in similar terms or as near
as may be, be passed by the said County of Middlesex.
