"TO APPROPRIATE THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS 'rOWARDS
THE REPAIR OF THE MACKINTOSH BRIDGE ACROSS THE RIVER THAMES
BETw:E;EN THE COUNTIES OF ELGIN AND MIDDLESEX."
Passed 11th October 1861.
WHEREAS the Mackintosh Bridge across the River Thames
at or near the Township line between the Townships of Dunwich
and Southwold on the boundary between the Counties of Middlesex
and Elgin being in an unfinished state and the Council of the
County of Middlesex having expressed their desire to.appropri-
ate a certain sum toward the repair of said Bridge provided the
Council of the County of Elgin appropriate a similar amount.
AND WHEREAS this Council have taken into considerat-
ion the importance and necessity for making and preseving said
Bridge and having been informed that a certain amount will re-
quire to be appropriated for expenditure on account of said
Works, this Council deems it expedient that the sum of two hund-
red and fifty dollars be appropriated for the preservation of
said Mackintosh Bridge.
AND WHEREAS by the Third subsection of the three
hundred and forty second Section of the Act 22nd Victoria,
Chapter 54th of the Consolidated Statutes of Upper Canada, the
CounciL of every County is authorised to pass By-Laws for
opentng"makiIng.: preserving, improving, repairing and widening
roads and bridges or other public communications running or
being within one or more Townships or between two or more
Townships of the County or between the County and any adjoin~
ing County or city or on the bounds of any town or Incorporated
Village within the boundaries of the County as the interest of
the inhabitants of the County in the opinion of the Council
require.to be so opened, made, preserved and improved.
AND ~{EREAS said Bridge being situated on the River
Thames and being public communication between the Counties of
Elgin and Middlesex, this Council deems it conducive to the
interests of the Inhabitants of the County that said communi-
cation·should be maintained, preserved, and improved.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Council of
the Corporation of the County of Elgin assembled by virtue of
the Municipal Institutions Act for Upper Canada

and under the authority aforesaid.
THAT THE SUM of two hundred and fifty dollars be
appropriated by this Corporation towards the preservation
of the Mackintosh Bridge across the River Thames at or
near the Township line between the Townships of Dunwich
and Southwold and on the boundary between the Counties of
Elgin and Middlesex.
AND IT IS also enacted that the Treasurer of the
County of Elgin is hereby authorized to pay said sum of
two hundred and fifty dollars to the parties who may repair
said Bridge on the certificate of a persop to be appointed
by this Council for that purpose, certi:fÞ¡~gthà:t,;sài.d Briqge
has been completed and that the work has been done in a
satisfactory manner which said certificate shall be encount-
ersigned by the Warden of the County
AND IT IS also enacted that this By-Law shall
have no effect until a By-Law in similar terms be passed
by the Council of the County of Middlesex.
