101 COUNTX' OF ELGIN By-Law No. 101 TO APPOINT LOCAL SUPERINTENDENTS OF COMMON SCHOOLS AND GRAMMAR SCHOOL TRUSTEES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN. TO PROVIDE FOR THE SUPPORT OF COUNTY GRAMMAR SCHOOLS AND FIX THE SALARIES OF LOCAL SUPERINTENDENTS IN SAID COUNTY FOR THE YEAR 1862". Passed 31st January 1862. WHEREAS IT IS necessary and expedient to appoint Local Superintendents of Common Schools, Grammar School Trustees and provide for the support of Grammar Schools in the County of Elgin. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Council of the Corporation of the County of Elgin in Council Assembled and under the authority of the 53rd Section of the Upper Canada School Act, Chapter sixty-fourth of the Consolidated Statutes for Upper Canada and by virtue thereof. THAT John G. McColl be and is hereby appointed Local Superintendent of Common Schools in the Townships comprised in the West Riding of the County of Elgin viz. Aldborough, Dunwich and Southwold with a salary of two hundred and twenty dollars per annum. AND BE IT ALSO enacted by the authority aforesaid. That the Reverend Edmund Sheppard be and is hereby appointed Local Superintendent of Common Schools in the Townships comprising the East Riding of the County of Elgin viz. Yarmouth, Malahide, Bayhàm and South Dorchester with a salary of· three hundred dollars per annum. AND IT IS HEREBY enacted under authority of the twenty-third Section of the Grammar School Act, Chapter sixty-third óf the Consolidated Statutes for Upper Canada and by virtue thereof. THAT Thomas Hodge and the Reverend D. W. Rowland be appointed Trustees of the St. Thomas County Grammar School and that P. W. Newcombe and J. P. McDonald be appointed Trustees of the Vienna County Grammar School for the term of four years and L. Whitney be a Trustee of said School in place of Samuel Garnsey, Deceased (cont'd) By-Law 101 Page 2 AND IT IS HEREBY enacted under authority of the sixteenth Section of said Grammar School Act. That the sum of two hundred and seventy-five dollars be appropriated, to- wards the salary of the Teacher of the St. Thomas County Grammar School for the present year. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that the sum of one hundred and seventy-five dollars be appropriated towards the salary of the Teacher of the Vienna County Grammar School for the Current year. AND IT IS HEREBY enacted that the foregoing approp- priations be paid to said Grammar Schools on condition that the pupils from the Townships in the County be admitted free and without restrictions as to boarding or any other contin- gency.
