108 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 108 "TO APPOINT LOCAL SUPERINTENDENTS OF COMMON SCHOOLS AND GRAMMAR SCHOOL TRUSTEES AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE SUPPORT OF GRAMMAR SCHOOLS AND DETERMINE THE SALARIES OF LOCAL SUPER- INTENDENTS IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR THE YEAR 1863." Passed 29th January 1863. WHEREAS it is considered necessary and expedient to appoint Local Superintendents of Common Schools, Grammar School Trustees and provide for the support of said Gram- mar Schools in the County of Elgin for the year 1863. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Council of the Corporation of the County of Elgin in Council assembled and under authority of the fifty-third section of the Upper Canada School Act, chapter 64 of the Consolidated Statutes for Upper Canada and by virtue thereof. THAT John S. McColl be and is hereby appointed Local Superintendent of Common Schools in the Townships comprised in the West Riding of the said County of Elgin namely Aldborough, Dunwich and Southwold for the current year, with a salary of Two Hundred and Twenty Dollars per annum. AND IT IS ALSO enacted under the authority afore- said that the Rev. Edmund Sheppard be and is hereby appoint- ed Local Superintendent of Common Schools in the Townships comprised in the East Riding of the County of Elgin namely Yarmouth, Malahide, Bayham, and South Dorchester for the current year with a salary of Three Hundred Dollars per annum. AND IT IS HEREBY enacted under authority of the 23rd Section of the Grammar School Act, chapter 63 of the Consolidated Statutes for Upper Canada and by virtue there- õf. THAT Dr. George Southwiék and the Rev. Dr. Caulfield be appointed Trustees of the St. Thomas County Grammar School wi th term of Office for four years. AND THAT H. A. Gustin and the Rev. H. B. Jessup be Trustees of the Vienna County Grammar School with term (cont'd) By-Law No. 108 Page 2 of Office for four years and that Robert Nicholl be a Trustee of said school in place of George Raymond who has removed from the limits thereof. AND IT IS HEREBY enacted under authority of the Sixtèenth Section of said Grammar School Act, that the sum of Three Hundred Dollars be appropriated towards the salary of the Teacher of the St. Thomas County Grammar School for the Current year. AND THAT the sum of Two Hundred Dollars be appro- priated towards the salary of the Teacher of the Vienna County Grammar School for the present year. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that sàid appropriations are made to said Schools on condition that pupils from the County attend the same free from payment of school fees and that this Act take effect from and after passing thereof.
