MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN
TO AUTHORIZE THE
THE SUM
TO LEVY UPON THE SEVERAL TOWNSHIPS IN THE COUNTY
OF THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THE PAYMENT OF
THE SALARIES OF LEGALLY_QUALIFIED COMMON SCHOOL TEACHERS IN
THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY-
ONE
FOR THE YEAR

THREE
WHEREAS it is expedient to raise the sum of Three
Thousand Four Hundred Dollars during the present year (1863)
in the several Townships comprised within the County of
Elgin for the payment of the salaries of legally qualified
Common School Teachers in the said County of Elgin being a
sum equal, clear of all charges of collection, to the amount
of school money apportioned by the Chief Superintendent to
the said County for the year 1863.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Council of the Cor-
poration of the County of Elgin by virtue and under authority
of the Fiftieth Section of the.Act Twenty Second Victoria,
Chapter sixty-four of the Consolidated Statutes of Upper
Canada being an Act respecting Common Schools in Upper Canada
THAT the sum of Three Thousand Four Hundred Dollars
be levied on the rateable property in the several Townships
in the County of Elgin during the year One Thousand Eight
Hundred and Sixty-three for the purpose of paying the salar-
ies of the legally qualified Common School Teachers in said
County and that a rate of one Mill in the Dollar be levied
on the rateable property in said Townships to raise the said
sum of 2hree Thousand Four Hundred Dollars.
AND IT IS ALSO enacted that the said amount of
Three Thousand Four Hundred Dollars shall be levied and raised
in the several Townships comprised in the said County of Elgin
as contained in the following Schedule free and clear of all
charges of collection and the full amount paid over to the
County Treasurer without any deduction whatsoever as required
by Law and that this By-Law take effect from the date of the
passing thereof.
