128 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 128 TO AUTHORIZE THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN TO RAISE THE SUM OF FOURTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IN THE SEVERAL MUN- ICIPALITIES OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR THE GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE COUNTY DURING THE YEAR ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY- FIVE." Passed 23rd June 1865. WHEREAS it is necessary and expedient to levy and collect in the several Municipalit~es of the County of Elgin a sufficient sum ~or General Purposes of said County in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-five. WHEREAS by the Eleventh Section of the Act Twenty- second Victoria, Chapter fifty-five of the Consolidated Stat- utes for Upper Canada, the Council of every Municipality is required every year to make estimates of all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the Municipality for the year in which such sums are required to be levied. AND by the Twelfth Section of said Act, every Mun- icipality is authorised to pass one By-Law or several By-Laws authorizing the levying and collecting of a rate or rates of so much in the Dollar upon the Assessed Value of therproperty therein as the Council deem sufficient to raise the sums re- quired on such estimates. AND WHEREAS an estimate has been made by the Council of the County of Elgin of the sums required for the lawful purposes of the Municipality for the current year showing that the sum of Fourteen Thousand Dollars will be required for the lawful purposes of the County as follows. Debentures and Interest $ 2,400 Municipal Loan Fund 6,400 Grammar Schools 500 Local Superintendents 560 Boards of Public Instruction 400 Administration of Justice & Jurors ),900 General Purposes & Members Wages, Officers Salaries & Etc 3,240 l7,I.¡.00 Less cash on hand a,400 -$1 , 000 (cont'd) Page 2 128 By-Law No BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the County of Elgin by virtue of the author- ity aforesaid. THAT there shall be raised and levied in the several Municipalities in the County of Elgin during the year One Thous- and Eight Hundred and Sixty-five, the sum of Fourteen Thousand Dollars for the general expenditure and liabilities of the County and for the lawful purposes thereof. AND that the said sum of Fourteen"'.'Thousand Dollars be apportioned, levied and collected in the several Municipal- ities of the County as contained in the Schedule forming part of this By-Law. AND that there shall be levied and collected upon the Assessed Value of the property therein a rate of Three and' ,one quarter Mills in the Dollar for the purpose of rais- ing the said sum of Fourteen Thousand Dollars. AND that the said amount be paid to the County Trea- surer as by Law directed. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that this By-Law shall take effect from and after the Twenty-third day of June One Thous- and Eight Hundred and Sixty-five.
