By-Law No. 142
"TO AUTHORIZE THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN
TO LEVY THE SUM OF THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-
THREE DOLLARS. UPON THE SEVERAL TOWNSHIPS OF THE COUNTY OF
ELGIN F0R-îtlE PAYMENT OF THE SALARIES OF LEGALLY QUALIFIED
COMMON SCHOOL TEACHERS FOR THE YEAR ONE THOUSAND EIGHT
HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SIX".
Passed 21st June 1866.
WHEREAS the Municipal Council of the County of
Elgin, have been notified by the Chief Superintendent of
Education, that the sum of three thousand five hundred
and fifty-three dollars has been apportioned by him to the
several Townships in the County of Elgin for the payment
of the salaries of legally qualified Common School Teachers
for the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six and _
WHEREAS it i s expedient to levy the sum of three
thousand five hundred and fifty-three dollars upon the
several Townships in the said County of Elgin, for the year
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six. for the payment
of the salaries of the legally qualified Common School
Teachers, being a sum as at least equal (clear of all charges
of collection) the amount of School money apportioned by the
Chief Superintendent of Education, to the several Townships
in the said County of Elgin, for the year one thousand eight
hundred and sixty~six.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Municipal Council
of the Coun~y of Elgin by virtue and under authority of the
Fiftieth Section of the Act, Twenty-second Victoria Chapter
sixty"'four,,:.'o¡j)':tÞ.e, Consolidated Statutes of Upper Canada,
that the sum of three thousand five hundred and fifty-three
dollars be levied upon the several:illownships in the said
County of Elgin in the year, one thousand eight hundred and
sixty-six ·£or the payment of the salaries of legally quali-
fied Common School Teachers as contained in the following
schedule clear of all charges of collection and paid into
the hands of the County Treasurer on or before the fourteenth
day of December one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six
as by the 51st Section of said Act required.

AND IT IS ALSO enacted that a rate of one tenth
of a cent in the dollar be levied on the rateable property
in the several Townships in the said County of Elgin during
the current year to raise the said sum of three thousand
five hundred and fifty-three dollars.
AND IT IS ALSO enacted that this By-Law shall
be in force and take effect from and after the date of
the passing thereof.
