"TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN TO CAUSE
TO BE LEVIED UPON THE SEVERAL TOWNSHIPS OF THE COUNTY THE
SUM OF THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-NINE DOLLM{S
FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE SALARIES OF LEGALLY QUALIFIED
COMMON SCHOOL TEACHERS FOR THE YEAR ONE THOUSAND EIGHT
HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN".
Passed 20th June 1867.
WHEREAS by the fiftieth section of the Act 22nd
Victoria Chapter 64 of the Consolidated Statutes for Upper
Canada it is enacted that each County Council shall cause
to be levied yearly upon the several Townships of the County
such sums of money for the payment of the salaries of legally
qualified Common School Teachers as at least equal (clear of
all charges of collection) the amount of school money appor-
tioned by the Chief Superintendent of Education to the several
Townships thereof for the year and notified by him to such
Council through the County Clerk.
WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin have
been notified by the Chief Superintendent that the sum of
three thousand four hundred dollars has been apportioned
to the several Townships in the County of Elgin for the
payment of the salaries of legally qualified Common School
Teachers for the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
seven.
AND WHEREAS the Council deem it expedient to
cause to be levied upon the several Townships into the County
of Elgin for the year one -thousand eight hundred and sixty-
seven the sum of three thousand four hundred and eighty-
nine dollars for the payment of the salaries of legally
(ualified Common School Teachers being a sum at least equal
clear of all charges of cOllection) the amount of school
money apportioned by the Chief Superintendent of Education
to the several Townships in the said County of Elgin for the
year 1867.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of
the County of Elgin by virtue of the authority aforesaid

that the sum of three thousand four hundred and eighty-nine
dollars be levied upon the several Townships in the County
of Elgin in the year one thousand eight hundred and siocty-
seven for the payment of the salaries of legally qualified
Common School Teachers as contained in the following schedule
(clear of all charges of cOllection) and paid into the hands
of the Treasurer of the County of Elgin on or before the
fourteenth day of December one thousand eight hundred and
siocty-seven by the 51st section of said act required and
that a rate of one tenth of a cent be levied and collected
on the rateable property in the Townships to raise said
amount so appropriated for Common Schools.

AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall be in
force and take effect on the first day of July one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-seven.
