161 " COUNTY OF ELGIN 161 By-Law No COUNTY OF ELGIN TQ CORPORATION OF TrÅ’ TO AUTHORIZE THE RA!SE THE_.8UM OF __TWENTY-T\[O THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED Al1l?. ê.I~'!'.Y-ONE _l?.OLLARS ON TKLsEV~RAL MUNICIPALITIEª-.JN THE YEAR ONE THOUSAND EIGHT COUNTY PURPOSES IN THE ~UNDRED ~ND SIXTY-SEVEN COliNTL!"OR Passed 20th June 1867 WHEREAS it is deemed expedient and necessary to raise a sufficient sum in the several Municipalities in the County of Elgin in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven for the lawful purposes of said County. WHEREAS by the thirteenth section of the Act 29 30 Victoria Chapter fifty-three it is enacted that _ The Council of every Municipality shall every year make estimates of all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the County, City, Town, Township or Village for the year in which such sums are required to be levied and in the fourteenth section of said act it is also enacted that the Council of every Municipality may pass one By-Law or several By-Laws authorizing the levying and cOllecting of a rate or rates of so much in the dollar upon the assessed value of the property therein as the Council deem sufficient to raise the sums required on such estimates AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin have made an estimate of all sums required for the lawful purposes of the Municipality of the County of Elgin for the year 1867 shewing that the sum of twenty-two thousand five hundred and sixty-one dollars will be required for the law- ful purposes of said County exclusive of Common Schools as follows - 2,618 6,400 600 560 400 4,000 5,283 1,000 500 1.200 $22,561 $ Debentures and Interest Municipal Loan Fund Grammar Schools Local Superintendents Board of Public Instruction Administration of Justice & Jurors General purposes Members Wages,etc Grants for Drill Sheds County roads and bridges Registers, fees, books, etc (Cont'd) Page 2 161 By-Law No AND WHEREAS by the seventy-fifth section of said act it is also enacted that the Council of a County in ap- portioning a County rate among the different Townships, Towns and Villages within the County shall in order that the same may be assessed equally on the amount of property returned on the Assessment Rolls oLsl.tch TO.wriships,'rowns and Villages or reported by the valuators as finally revised and equali- zed for the precedihg year the basis upon which the ap- portionment is made. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin by virtue and under authority aforesaid _ That there shall be levied and collected a rate of five tenths of a cent in the dollar upon the assessed value of the property in the said County of Elgin in the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven to raise the sum of twenty-two thousand five hundred and sixty-one dollars required for the lawful purposes and liabilities of the said County and apportioned amongst the several Town- ships and Villages in said County on the amount of property returned on the Assessment Rolls as finally revised and equalized for the preceding year as contained in the following schedule and that the full amount of the said sum of twenty- two thousand five hundred and sixty-one dollars be paid as therein to the County Treasurer as the law directs 2,273 2,773 4,564 4,765 3,554 1,640 2,617 375 $22,561 Schedule Aldborough Dunwich Southwold Yarmouth Malahide South Dorchester Bayham Vienna AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall take effect and be in force from and after the twenty-ninth day of June A D 1867. 1867 D. of June A Passed in Council the 20th day Nairn M.
