168 COUNTY OF ELGIN 168 By-Law No TO E~UALIZE THE VALUATIONS OF PROPERTY IN THE ASSESSMENT ROLLS TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN OF THE TOWNSHIPS 1868 " WHEREAS by the Seventy-second Section of the Assess- ment Act for Upper Canada, 29-30 Victoria Chapter Fifty-three, it is enacted that the Council of every county shall yearly be- fore imposing any county rate, and not later than the first day of July, examine the Assessment Rolls of the different townships, towns and villages in the county for the preceding financial year for the purpose of ascertaining whether the valuations made by the Assessors in each township, town or village for the current year bears a just relation to the valuations so made in all such townships, towns and villages and may for the purpose of county rates increase or decrease the aggregate valuations of real and personal property in any township, town or village, adding or deducting so much per cent as may in their opinion be necessary to produce a just relation between all the valuations of real and personal estate in the county but they shall not reduce the aggregate valuation there- of for the whole county as made by the Assessors. FOR THE YEAR AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin as required by said Section Number Seventy-two have examined the Assessment Rolls of the different townships, towns, and villages in the,Countycôf Elgin for the preceding financial year to ascertain whether the valuations made by the Assessors for the curent year bears a just relation to the valuations so made in all such townships, towns and villages of the BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of Elgin by virtue of the authority aforesaid. County THAT the following schedule of valuations be the equalized valuations of real and personal property in the several townships, towns and villages in the County of Elgin for the year 1868.
