179 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 179 "TO EXTEND THE TIME FOR THE PAYMENT OF TAXES ON LANDS." WHEREAS by the One Hundred and Twenty-ninth Sec- tion of the Assessment Act of 1869, thirty-second Victoria Chapter thirty-six, it is enacted that The Council of a County, City or Town shall have power to extend the time for the payment of taxes b~yond the term of three years by By-Law passed for that purpose. AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the time for the payment of Taxes on Lands be extended. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin by virtue of the authority aforesaid THAT no Lands in the County of Elgin arrears for Taxes previous to 1869 shall be liable to be sold for the payment of Taxes until a portion of the Tax on such Lands has been due for and in the' fifth year. THAT the Treasurer of the County of Elgin is here- by directed not to submit to the Warden of the said County a list in duplicate of-Lands liable to be sold for Taxes unless a portion of the Tax an any such Land has been due for and in the fifth year. AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall take effect and be in force on and after the Seventeenth day of June, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-nine.
