HUNDRED AND NINTY-
TO RAISE_THE SUM OF NINETEEN THOUSAND FOUR
THREE DOLLARS FOR COUNTY PURPOSES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR
"
Assessment
HUNDRED AND SIXTY-NINE.
WHEREAS by the tñirteenth Section of the
Act 32nd Victoria Chapter 36, it is enacted that
ONE THOUSAND EIGHT
THE YEAR
THE Council of every County or local Municipality
sñall every year make estimates of all sums which may be re-
quired for the lawful purposes of the County or local Municipal-
ity for the year in which such sums are required to be lévied.
AND by the Fourteenth Section of said Act it is also
enacted that the 'Council of every Municpality may pass one By-
Law or several By-Laws authorizing the levying and collecting
of a rate or rates of so much in the dollar upon the assessed
value of the property therein as the Council deems sufficfuent
to raise the sums required on such estimates
AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin have
made an estimate of all sums required for the lawful purposes
of the Municipality of the County of Elgin for the year One
Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-nine, showing that the sum of
Nineteen Thousand Four Hundred and Ninety-three Dollars will be
required for the lawful purposes of said County exclusive of
Common Schools as follows;

AND WHEREAS by the seventy-fourth Section of said
Assessment Act it is enacted that
THE Council of a County in apportioning a County rate
among the different Townships, Towns and Villages within the
County shall in order that the same may be assessed equally on
the whollil rateable property of the County make the amount of
property returned on the Assessment Rolls for such Townships,
Towns and Villages as finally revised and equalized for the pre-
ceding year the basis upon which the apportionment is made.

BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the
County of Elgin by virtue and under the authority aforesaid
THAT there shall be levied and collected during the
year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-nine, a rate of two
and three-quarter Mills in the Dollar upon the amount of pro-
pêrty returned on the Assessment Rolls of Townships and Vil-
lages in the said County of Elgin as finally revised and
equalized for the preceding year 1868, to raise the sum of
nineteen thousand four hundred and ninety-three dollars re-
quired for the lawful purposes of said County and apportioned
among the different Townships and Villages in said County as
contained in the following Schedule;

AND IT IS ALSO enacted that the Treasurers of the
several Municipalities in the said County of Elgin shall pay
the several amounts to the County Treasurer as apportioned
to be paid and at such time as by Law required.
AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall take
effect and be in force from and after the seventeenth day of
June, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-nine.
