191 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 191 TO RAISE THE SUM OF NINETEENif THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN DOLLARS FOR COUNTY PURPOSES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN FOR THE YEAR ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY." Passed in Council 23 June 1870. WHEREAS by the thirteenth Section of the Assessment Act 32 Victoria, Chapter 36 of the Province of Ontàrio, it is enacted THAT the Council of every County or local Municipality shall every year make estimates of all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the County or local Municipality for the year in which such sums are required to be levied. AND by the fourteenth Section of said Act it is also enacted that the Council of every Municipality may pass one By- Law or several By-Laws authorizing the levying and collecting of a rate or rates of so:"much in the dollar upon the Assessed Value of the property therein as the Council deems sufficiènt to raise the sums required on such estimates. AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin have made an estimate of all sums required: for the lawful purposes of the Municipality of the County of Elgin for the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy, showing that the sum of nineteen thousand one hundred and fifteen dollars will be re- quired for the lawful purposes of said County exclusive of Common Schools as follows. Debentures and Coupons $ 1,904 Municipal Loan Fund 6,400 Common Schools 3,300 Grammar Schools 630 Superintendents 550 Board of Public Instruction 500 Administration of Justice 4,000 County Lines & Bridges 1,000 General Purposes 4,131 $22,415 Deduct for Common Schools 3,300 $19,115 AND WHEREAS by the seventy-fourth Section of said Assessment Act, it is enacted that (cont'd) 191 By-Law No Page 2 THE Council of a County in apportioning a County rate among the differènt Townships, ~owns, and Villages within the County shall in order that the same may be assessed equally on the whole rateable property of the County make the amount of property returned on the Assessment Rolls for such Townships, Towns, and Villages as finally revised and equalized for the precedå:ng_: year the basis upon which the apportionment is made BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the of Elgin by virtue and under the authority aforesaid County THAT there shall be levied and collected during the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy a rate of two and four-tenth Mills in the dollar upon $7,964,642 the amount of propßrty r.eturned on the Assessment Rolls of the Townships and Villages in the said County of Elgin as finally revised and equal- ized for theLreceding year (1869) to raise the sum of nineteen thousand one hundred and fifteen dollars required for the law- ful purposes of said County and apportioned among the different Townships and Villages in said County as contained in the follow- ing Schedule. $19,ll5 275 661 613 888 981 983 546 168 , , , , , , , $2 2 3 3 2 1 1 Aldborough Dunwich Southwold Yarmouth Malahide South Dorchester Bayham Vienna AND IT IS ALSO enacted that the TreasurersØf,,;t1J.e· sev- eral Municipalities in the said County of Elgin, shall pay the several amounts to the County Treasurer as apportioned to be paid and at such time as by law required.
