By-Law No 225
RAISE THE SUM OF FORTY-ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND FORTY-
TO
YEM~ ONE THOUSAND
TWO DOLLARS FOR COUNTY PURPOSES IN THE
"
WHEREAS by the thirteenth Section of the Asseslsment
Act 32 Victoria Chapter 36 of the Province of Ontario it is
enacted that
EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-TWO
The Council of every County or local Municipality
shall every year make estimates of all sums which may be re-
quired for the lawful purposes of the County or local Munici-
pality for the year in which said sums are required to be
levied.
AND BY THE Fourteenth Section of said Act it is
also enacted that the Council of every Municipality may pass
one By-Law or several By-Laws authorizing the levying and
collection of a rate or rates of so much on the dollar upon
the assessed value of the property therein as the Council may
deem sufficient to raise the sums required on said estimates.
AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of the County
of Elgin have made an estimate of all sums required for the
lawful purposes of the Municipality for the year one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-two shewing that the sum of forty-
one thousand six hundred and forty-two dollars.
AND WHEREAS by the Seventy-Fourth Section of said
Assessment Act it is enacted -
That the Council of a county in apportioning a
County rate among the several Townships, Towns and Villages
within the County shall in order that the same may be assess-
ed equally on the whole rateable property of the County, make
the amount of property returned on the Assessment Rolls for
such Townships, Towns and Villages as finally revised and
equalized for the preceding year the basis upon which the
apportionment is made.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the
County of Elgin in Council assembled by virtue and under the
authority aforesaid -
THAT the sum of twenty-three thousand and thirty-
seven dollars shall be raised in the several Municipalities
of the County during the current year for debentures and
composed of the Canada Southern Railway and that a rate of
two mills and eight tenths of a mill in the dollar to be
levied on the rateable property in said Municipality to raise
said amount.

THAT the sum of eighteen thousand six hundred
and five dollars be raised in the several Municipalities
in the said County of Elgin during the current year for
County purposes and general expenditure.
AND THAT a rate of two mills and two tenthsiiof a
mill in the dollar be levied on the rateable property in
said County to raise said amount.
AND IT IS enacted that the said rates shall be
apportioned upon the amount of property on the Assessment
Rolls for the several Municipalities in the County as
finally revised and equalized for the preceding yearviz
1871 to raise said amounts required for the lawful purposes
of said County exclusive of schools and as mentioned and
required under the seventy-fourth Section of said Asses~me~t,
Act and this By-Law and apportioned amongst the several
Townships and Villages in said County in the following
Schedule.

AND IT IS also enacted that the Treasurers of
the several Municipalities in the said County of Elgin
shall pay the respective amounts to the County Treasurer
as ~pportioned to be paid and at such time as by Law
required.
AND THAT that this By-Law shall be in force and
take· effect from and after the eig.hth day of June one
thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.
