228 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 228 "TO ESTABLISH A LOCK-UP HOUSE IN THE .VILLAGE. OF WALLACE- TOWN IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN". Passed 13th November 1872 WHEREAS under the 407th Section of the Municipal Act of 1866, the Council of every County is authorized to establish and maintain a lock-up house or lock-up houses within the County and may establish and provide for the salary or fees to be paid to the Constable to be placed in charge of every such lock-up house and may direct the pay- ment of the salary of such keeper out of the funds of the County. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin in County Council Assembled and by Virtue of the Authority aforesaid - THAT the lock-up house erected in the Village of Wallacetown in the Township of Dunwich in the County of Elgin be and the same is hereby established as a lock-up house. AND THAT the sum of forty dollars be the sum to be paid to the keeper of said lock-up house per annum. AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall take effect and be in force from and after the thirteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two.
