238 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 238 "TO REPEAL BY-LAW NUMBER TWENTY RESPECTING PAYMENT OF JURORS AND TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT PAID TO JURORS FOR THEIR ATTENDANCE Passed in Council 5th June 1873 WHEREAS the amount on one dollar per day, fixed by BY-Law{:{cto.d';e paid to Jurors being considered insufficient, it is deemed expedient to increase the amount to one dollar and fifty cents per day. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin under authority of the Jury Act 22nd Victoria, Chapter thirty-one, Consolidated Statutes of Upper Canada. That every Petit Juryman and Grand Juryman attending the Courts of Assize and nisi prius, Oyer and Terminer General Sessions of the Peace or County Court, shall receive the sum of one dollar and fifty cents per day for such attendance, and the sum of ten cents per mile for every mile he travels from place of residence to the said Court. AND IT IS FURTHER enacted under the authority of the said Act, that the Sheriff receive the sum of two dollars for each pay list for Petit and Grand Jurors, and the sum of one dollar per say for checking the same at the opening of the Courts, and certifying and returning the same to the Treasurer of the County. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that By-Law number twenty heretofore passed in that behalf be, and the same is hereby repealed.
