242 COUNTY OF ELGIN 242 By-Law No TO RAISE AMOUNTS FOR COUNTY PURPOSES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN " FOR THE YEAR 18 Passed 5th June 1873. . WHEREAS by the thirteenth Section of the Assessment Act 32nd Victoria, Chapter 36 of the Province of Ontario, it is enacted that THE Council of every County or local Municipality shall every year make estimates of all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the County or local Mun- icipality for the year in which said sums are required to be levied. AND by the fourteenth Section of said Act, it is enacted that the Coundil of every Municipality may pass one By-Law or several By-Laws authorißing the levying and collect- inn of a rate or rates of so much in the dollar upon the as- sessed value of the property, therein as the Council may deem sufficient to raise the sums required on said estimates AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin has made an estimate of all sums required for the lawful purposes of the Municipality for the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three shewing that the sum of thirty-five thâus- and seven hundred and forty-eight dollars is required to be raised for County purposes. AND WHEREAS by the 74th Section of said Assessment is enacted it THAT the Council of a County in apportioning a County rate among the several Townships, Towns and Villages within the County shall in order that the same may be asses- sed equally on the whole of the rateable property of the County make the amount of property returned on the Assess- ment Rolls for such Townships, Towns and Villages as finally revised and equalized for the preceding year, the basis upon which the apportionment is made. Act BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin in Council assembled by virtue and under authority aforesaid. THAT the sum of twenty-one thousand and twenty-five dollars be raised in the said County during the current year for debentures and coupons of the Canada Southern Railway and that a rate of two and a half Mills in the dollar be levied on the rateàble property in said Municipality to raise said amount. (cont'd) By-Law No. 242 Page 2 THAT the sum of twenty-one thousand and two dollars be raised in the several Municipalities in the said County during the current year for County purposes and general ex- penditures. AND THAT a rate of one and three quarter Mills in the dollar be levied on the rateable property in said County to raise said amount. AND IT IS enacted that the said rates shall be ap- portioned upon the amount of property in the several Munici- palities in the County as finally revised and equalized for the preceding. year(1872) to raise said amounts as per Schedule following; SCHEDULE Municipalities Southern General Total Railway Co.
