251 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 251 :~Q APPOINT A TREASURER FOR THE COUNTY OF ELGIN" Passed in Council 26th February 1874. BE IT enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin in County Council assembled that John A. Kains be and is hereby appointed Treasurer of the County of Elgin in place of G.T. Claris deceased. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that the fees allowed by Statute to be charged as commission for selling lands in arrears for taxes be charged apainst said lands only. And that the salary of the Treasurer be in lieu of fees for making searches as to lands in arrears and percentage for monies received. And that county monies be deposited in the Merchant Bank of Canada. The interest thereon to belong to the county as already arranged withsmd Bank. And that it shall be the duty of the Treasurer to submit to the Warden a monthly statement of the receipts and disbursements of county monies. AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall be in force and take effect from and after the twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four.
