Passed 18th June 1874. WHEREAS' by the thirteenth section of the Assessment Act 32nd<Yictoria chapter 36 of the Province of Ontario it is enacted that The Council of every county shall every year make estimates of all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the county for the year in which such sU~à à~e required to be levied, and by the fourteenth section of said Act, it is enacted that the council of every municipality may pass one or several By-Laws authorizing the levying and collection of a rate or rates of so much in the dollar upon the assessed value of the property therein as the council may deem sufficient to raise the sums required on said estimates. AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin has made an estimate of all sums required for the lawful purposes of the municipality for the year 1874 showing that the sum of forty thousand and one hundre~ and eighty- seven dollars is required to be raised for county purposes. AND WHEREAS by the 74th section of said Assessment Act it is enacted That the council of a county in apportioning a county rate among the several townships, towns and villages within the county shall in order that the sum may be assessed equally on the whole of the property returned on the Assessment Rolls for such townships, towns and villages as finally revised and equalized for the preceding year the basis upon which the apportionment is made. (Cont'd) Page 2 BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin in council assembled and by virtue and under the authority aforesaid, that the sum of nineteen thousand nine hundred dollars be raised in said County of Elgin during the current year for debentures and coupons of the Canadian Southern Railway and that a rate of two and four tenths of a mill in the dollar be levied on the rateable property in said municipality to raise said amount 254 By-Law No That the sum of fifteen thousand eight hundred and sixty-four dollars be raised in the several municipalities in the said county during the current year for county purposes and general expendit~re and that a rate of one and three quarter mills in the dollar be levied on the rateable property in said county to raise said amount. AND ALSO that the sum of four thousand, four hundred and twenty-three dollars be raised in the township municipalities in said county for school purposes being an equivalent to the legislative apportionment to said County of Elgin for the year 1874, and as apportioned by the Chief Superintendent of Education AND IT IS enacted that the said rates shall be apportioned and levied upon the amount of property in the several municipalities in the county as finally revised and equalized for the preceding year (1873) to raise said amounts as per schedule: Common Schools ----. ----- ê.Q.1:!EDULE General Coun:tLRate Municipalities Southern ___-Railj'Œ:Y:__.
