COUNTY OF ELGIN
By-Law No. 267
TO RAISE THE SUM OF THIRTY-THREE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED
AND THIRTY-FOUR DOLLARS FOR COUNTY PURPOSES IN THE COUNTY
OF ELGIN FOR THE YEAR 1875".
WHEREAS by the Thirteenth Section of the Assess-
ment Act 32 Victoria Chapter 36 it is enacted that the
Council of every County shall every year make an estimate
of all sums which may be required for the lawful purpose
of the County for the year in which such sums are re-
~uired to be levied and by the 14th Section of said Act
1t is enacted that the Council of every Municipality may
pass By-Laws authorizing the levying and collection of a
rate or rates of so much in the dollar upon the assessed
value of the property therein, as the Council may deem
sufficient to raise the sums required on said estimates.
AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin
has made an estimate of all sums required for the lawful
purposes of the Municipality for the year 1875 shewing that
the sum of thirty-three thousand, eight hundred and thirty-
four dollars is required to be raised for County purposes.
AND WHEREBY the 74th Section of said Assessment
Act it is enacted -
THAT the Council of a County in apportioning a
County rate among the several Townships, Towns and Villages
with the County shall in order that the sums may be assess-
ed equally on the whole of the property returned on the
Assessment Rolls for such Townships, Towns and Villages as
finally revised and equalized for the preceding year
be the basis upon which the apportionment is made.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the
County of Elgin in Council Assembled and by virtue of the
Authority aforesaid
THAT the sum of thirty-three thousand, eight
hundred and thirty-four dollars be raised in the said County
of Elgin during the present year for debentures and coupons
of the Canada Southern Railway and that a rate of two and -:
three quarter mills in the dollar be levied on the rateable
in said County to raise said amount of thirty-three thousand
eight hundred and thirty-four dollars.
THAT the sum of thirty-three thousand, eight hun-
dred and thirty-four dollars be raised in the several Munici-
palities in the said County during the present year for
County purposes and General Expenditures and that a rate of
two mills and three quarters of a mill in the dollar be
levied on the rateable property in said County to raise said
amount.

AND IT IS enacted that the said rates shall be
apportioned and levied upon the amount of property in the
several Municipalities in the County of Elgin as finally
revised and equalized for the preceding year to raise said
amounts as per schedule hereunto.

AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall take
effect and be in force from and after the eighteenth day of
June A. D. 1875.
