McKay Clerk Note: Attached is a copy of a letter to the Township of Southwold from Jno. D. Baikie, Provincial Land Surveyor and a copy of Township of Southwold By-law No. 235 Cont'd) ',- By-Law No 286 Page 2 To the Reeve and Council of the Township of Southwold Gentlemen I beg leave to report that in comp- liance with a notice received from S. 'rubby Esquire Municipal Clerk dated the 2nd instance: to examine the "Old Selborne Bridge and the road connecting therewith with a view to the closing of same to public travel". On the 3rd instance I examined said road and bridge. Bridge - The latter I found boarded up at each end to prevent the public from using the same as a public highway. This I consider as proper, as the middle pier or bent of the bridge has been removed, I suppose by a freshet, thereby causing the bridge to sag in the centre and to be unsafe for public traveL Road - Owing to the opening of Warren Street and the build- ing of a new bridge on said street across Kettle Creek, which is as convenient to the travelling pub- lic as the old highway connecting the road running south on the west side of Kettle Creek or Mill Street from Union Road to the Village of Port Stanley, with the London and Port Stanley Gravel Road, I consider that the old road and Selborne Bridge are unnecessary as a public highway. All of which is respectfully submitted I have the honor to be Gentlemen Your Obedient Servant Jno. D.
