300 COUNTY OF ELGIN 300 By-Law No RATES IN THE COUNTY OF ELGIN AMOUNTS FOR COUNTY TO RAISE Passed 21 June 1877 WHEREAS by the thirteen section of the Assessment Act.32 Victoria Chapter 36 of the Province of Ontario it is enacted that - " FOR THE YEAR 18LL The Council of every County shall every year make an estimate of all sums which may be required for the lawful purposes of the County for the year in which such sums are required to be levied And by the 14th section of said Act it is enacted that the Council of every Municipality may pass By-Laws authorizing the buying and collection of a rate or rates in the dollar upon the assessed value of the property therein as the Council may deem sufficient to raise the sums re- quired on said estimates AND WHEREAS the Council of the County of Elgin has made an estimate of all sums required for the lawful purposes of the Municipality for the year 1877 shewing that the sum of thirty-six thousand one hundred and nine dollars will be required to be raised for County purposes during the current year exclusive of school rate said Assessment AND WHEREAS by the 74th Section of Act it is enacted - That the Council of a County in apportioning a County Rate amongst the several Townships, Towns and Villages in the County shall in order that the sums may be assessed equally on the whole of the property returned on the Assess- ment Rolls for such Township, Towns and Villages as finally revised and equalized for the preceding year be the basis upon which the apportionment is made. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin in County Counéil assembled and by virtue of the authority aforesaid - That the sum of eighteen thousand one hundred dollars be raised, levied and collected in the· several Muni- cipalities of the County of Elgin during the year one thou- sand eight hundred and seventy-seven for Debentures and (Cont'd) By-Law No 300 Page 2 Coupons of the Canada Southern Railway By-Law And that a rate of one mill and one eighth of a mill be levied on the rateable property in said County to raise said amount - That the sum of eighteen thousand and nine dollars be raised, levied and collected in the several Municipalities in said County during the year 1877 for general County purposes And that a rate of one mill and one eighth of a mill be levied on the rateable property in said County to raise said amount. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that this By-Law shall be in force and take effect from and after the fourth day of July one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven.
