By-Law No. 328
"TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN
TO ERECT A BRIDGE ACROSS KETTLE CREEK IN THE VILLAGE
OF_PORT STßITLEY".
Passed 13 November 1879.
WHEREAS the bridge across Kettle Creek at
the Village of Port Stanley having become dangerous
it is deemed expedient..to erect a new bridge in lieu
thereof.
AND WHEREAS under the 494th section of the
Municipal Act, County Councils are required to keep up
bridges over one hundred feet in length in incorporated
villages, and the bridge at Port Stanley being over one
hundred feet in length it is deemed necessary to erect
a new structure in lieu thereof.
BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of
the County of Elgin that a new bridge be erected across
Kettle Creek at the Village of Port Stanley with an .iron
super structure of about two hundred feet in length and
eighteen feet in width with wood abutments according to
the plans and specifications of Alfred Ware, Engineer.
AND IT IS ALSO enacted that M. Payne,
James Martin and Duncan Campbell be a Special Committee,
in conjunction with Mr. Ware to advertise for tenders
and let contract for building said bridge and have the
work proceeded with under the Superintendence of
Alfred Ware, the County Engineer, and according to the
plans and specifications prepared by him.-
AND THE County Treasurer is hereby authorized to
pay orders for the erection of said bridge on certificate
of the County Engineer, signed by the Chairman of said
Committee and Warden of the County.
AND THE Warden of the County is hereby authorized
to execute contracts on behalf of the County for said
works and attach the seal of the County thereto.
