343 COUNTY OF ELGIN By-Law No. 343 "TO AMEND BY-LAW NUMBER 152 RESPECTING REWARDS FOR THE APPREHENSION OF HORSE THIEVES". Passed 28th January 1881 WHEREAS By-Law Number 152 was passed on the 22nd day of January 1867 to grant thirty dollars far the appre- hension of horse thieves which is considered excessive and should be reduced. BE IT THEREFORE enacted by the Corporation of the County of Elgin in County Council assembled. THAT By-Law Number 152 be amended so that the re- ward to be paid to any person or persons who shall pursue and apprehend or cause to be apprehended any person or per- sons guilty of stealing any horse or mare within the said County shall be twenty dollars. AND IT IS ALSO enacted that the said sum of twenty dollars be the amount to be paid to any person or persons as a reward for the apprehension of any person or persons or cause to be apprehended any person or persons guilty of steal- ing any horse or mare within the said County of Elgin and that such reward of twenty dollars be paid out of the funds of the Municipality on conviction of the thief and on an. order of the judge before whom the conviction is obtained. AND IT IS enacted that this By-Law shall take ef- fect and be in force from and after the twenty-eighth day of January A.D. 1881.
