C.OUNTY OF ELGIN
By-Law No. 460
TO RAISE AMOUNTS FOR. COUNTY RATES DURING THE YEAR
1889".
Passed 7th June 1889
WHEREAS by section 82 of Chapter 193 of the
Revised Statutes of Ontario -
The Council of a County in apportioning a
County Rate within the different townships, towns and
villages within the County shall in order that the
same may be assessed equally on the whole rateable prop-
erty of the County make the amount of property returned
on the Assessment Rolls of such townships, towns and
villages or reported by the valuators as finally revised
and equalized for the preceding year the basis upon
which the apportionment is made and.
WHEREAS by sections 359 and 360 of Chapter
184 of the Revised Statutes of Ontario -
The Council of every County shall every year
make estimates of all sums which may be required for
the lawful purposes of the County for the year in which
the sums are required to be levied, and the Council of
every Municipality, may pass By-Laws authorizing the
levying and collecting of rates.
AND WHEREAS an estimate has been made show-
ing that the sum of thirty-nine thousand dollars is re-
quired to be raised in the several Municipalities for
the lawful purposes of the County during the present year.
AND WHEREAS notice has been received from the
Education Department that the sum of three thousand three
hundred and seventy six dollars being an amount equivalent
to the Government Grant should be raised in the Township
Municipalities in the County for Common Schools.
THEREFORE the Council of the Municipal Corpor-
ation of the County of Elgin enacts -
I. That a rate of two and nine twentieths mills
in the dollar be levied upon all the rateable property
in the several Municipalities of the County of Elgin as
equalized for the year 1888 to raise the following amounts

II . That the sum of three thousand three hundred
and seventy-six dollars be raised and levied in the
several Township Municipalities in the County being an
amount equivalent to the Government Grant to the Common
Schools of the several Township Municipalities in the
County of Elgin.
III. That the sum of thirty-nine thousand dollars
be raised and levied in the several Municipalities in
the County according to the following schedule and that
the amounts as entered therein be paid over to the County
Tre~surer as by law required.
