621 , COUNTY OF ELGIN 621 By-Law No It TO ESTABLISH A POLICE VILLAGE_AT RODNEY. Passed 1901 WHEREAS under the authority of the Act 6J Victoria, Chapter 33, Section 50, it is enacted that the Council of any county, or the councils of any counties in which an unin- corporated village is situated, shall set apart such unincor- porated village as a police village upon a petition being presented, describing the area to be included in such village and signed by a majority of the ratepayers resident therein. Where such unincorporated village lies wholly in one county, the Council shall, in and by such By-Law, fix a time and place for, and shall name a Returning Officer for conducting the first election of Police Trustees as hereinafter mentioned, and the date of the first meeting of the Police Trustees after such election. 19th March, AND WHEREAS, a petition has been received from the residents of the Unincorporated Village of Rodney, in the Township of Aldborough praying for the formation of a Police Village. AND WHEREAS such petition defines the area to be included in such Village, and is signed by a majority of the ratepayers therein, as The Elgin County Council therefore enacts 1. That the Unincorporated Village of Rodney, in the Township of Aldborough be and is hereby set apart a Police Village 2. That the area to be included in the said Police Village of Rodney shall comprise all and singular that certain parcel or tract of land situate, lying and being in the Town- ship of Aldborough, in the County of Elgin and Province of Ontario, being composed of the south halves of lots number six and seven in the seventh concession, the north halves of lots numbers six and seven in the eighth concession and the south east quarter of lot number six and the south west quarter of lot number seven both in the eighth concession all in the Township of Aldborough, containing five hundred acres more or less. A meeting of the electors shall be held for the nomination of candidates for the office of Police Trustees, in the said Village of Rodney, in the Town Hall, at noon on Tuesday the 9th day of April. (Cont'd) By-Law No. 621 Page 2 4. The Returning Officer shall preside at such meeting, and shall give at least six days notice of the same. 5. If after a lapse of one hour more than three candidates are nominated, the Returning Officer or Chairman shall adjourn the proceedings until Tuesday, the 16th day of April when a poll or polls shall be opened in the Town Hall, at nine o'clock in the morning, and shall continue until five o'clock in the afternoon and no longer. 6. That Mr. E. A. Hugill of the said'!Village of Rodney, be and is hereby appointed Returning Officer for con- ducting such election of Police Trustees. 7. That the first meeting of Police Trustees after such election shall be held at the Town Hall on the 2Jrd day of April, at eleven a. m. Council Chamber St. Thomas 19th March, 1901. K. W. McKay W. O.
