1564 '.""'"''.''',""".''' <'_2.0, '7;'''''~''''F'''":>'^'·':J':''''''' THE CORPORATIOl~ OF THE COUNTY OF ELGIN ~ BY-LA'WNO. 1564 Being a By-law to authorize the Corporation of the County of Elgin to grant aid in the SUJJl of $560,000.00 for the establishment, erection and equipment of the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. WHEREAS for the last ten years 01' more it has become increasingly apparent that a hospital with more active treatmemrt beds was required to ac- commodate the people of the County of Elgin; AND WHEREAS after thorough investigation and special reports this Council has determined that the Corporation of the County of Elgin should grant aid for the erection, establishment, 11Bi.ntenance"o:r equipment of a public hospital to serve the needs of the people of the County of Elgin, to be known as the St. Thomas Elgin Ueneral Hospital; AND WEREAS it has been determined to erect a new hospital wi thin the City of St. Thomas or the County of Elgin at a cost, estimated between ~f2,000,000.00 and $2,200,000.00, WhiCh it bas been determined to finance through grants from the Government of the Dominion of Canada and the Province of Ontario and by public subscription, and by grants by the City of St. Thomas and the County of Elgin; AND WREREAS it has been determined that the respective grants by the City of St. Thomas and by the COUIrl;y of Elgin should be on the basis of 60:40; I AND WHEREAS on this basis it nas been estimated that the grant of the County of Elgin shall be the sum of $560,000.00; THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the County of .f!¡lgin ENACTS I AS F'OLLO'WS: I I (1) THAT aid be granted for the establishment, erection and equipment of the St. Thomas Elgin Ueneral Hospital, to be erected within the City of St. Thomas or wi thin the County of Elgin as aforesaid. ~2) THAT grant be made by the Corporation of the County of Elgin for this purpose in a SUJJl not exceeding $560,000.00, said sum to be advanced from time to time as may be required by the architect of the said hospital, and to conform with payments by ' ¡he City of St. Thomas on the basis of $40.00 being advanced by II ;<\",. -2- the County of Elgin for every $60.00 advanced by the City of St. Thomas. (5) THIS by-law shall beSubtnitted to obtain the opinion of the electors of the COtmty of Elgin, and the persons entitled to vote thereon shall be those persons within each of the local municipalities of which the County is composed who are antitled to vote on money by-laws.
