1696 ~~: 1696 A BY-LAW APPOINTING A ROAD SUPERINTENDENT FOR COUNTY OF ELGIN WHEREAS it is necessary and expedient to appoint a Road Superintendent for the County of Elgin AND WHEREAS provision is made under The Highway Improvement Act for appointing a Road Superintendent in whom shall be vested the administration and management of the County Road System and w.ho srhall be a qualified Engineer,. BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Corporation of the County of Elgin and is hereby enacted as follows:- (1) THAT Robert G. Moore of the township of South Dumfries in the County of Brant, and is hereby appointed èounty Road Superintendent for the County of Elgin (2) That the said Superintendent shall act under the direction of the duly appointed County Road Committee and shall in addition perform all duties pertaining to the Off,ice of County Engineer. (3) That the duties of the said Superintendent shall be such as are set out on the schedule hereto, which schedule forms part of the by-law. (4) That the Salar¡ or remuneration of the said Superin.. ~ tendent shall be the sum of 6,000.00 ~et annum pay.able ~.~ monthly, and an allowance of eight cents per ~ ör the use of his ~ car aRclXE%axaìiingxe~R~x to a limit of 20,000 miles and travellin expenses. (5) That a suitable office in the County building with the necessary furniture and equipment shall be provided for his use and that necessary clerical assistance shall be provided by, the County. (6) That the term of office of the said Superintendent shall commence the 1st day of February, 1957. (7) That all by-laws inconsistent with this by-law be and are hereby repealed. (8) That a copy of this by-law appointing the County Road Superintendent shall be transmitted to the Department of Highways within thirty days of the passing there of and such appointment shall be subject to the approval of the Minister. This by-law appears to be in order except in that there should be a limit to the number of miles allowed at the rate of $ cents per mile. I would suggest that this portion of paragraph 4 should read as follows: "AND AN ALLOWANCE OF$ CENTS PER ~ŒLE FOR THE USE OF HIS CAR TO A LIlVIITOF 20 000 MILES AND TRAVELLING EXPENSES." , If the road committee and Mr. Moore do not agree with the 20,000 mile figure this could be changed. (8) To prepare plans, profiles, and specifications for county road and county bridge work. If such work is to be done by contract to further prepare tender forms and contracts and to see that the work is advertised. To list and tabulate tenders received, setting out his recommendations.
