Where an employee has been employed for more

For every month of regular attendance, an
employee shãll be entitled to a sick leave
credit of (not more than one and one-half

The Head of each Department, namely I the
County Engineer, the Superintendent of Elgin
Manor, the County Assessor, the Jail Governor,
the Librarian, the Clerk-Treasurer, or the
Head of any other Department, shall maintain
and keep a register in which all sick leave
credits and sick leave absences for every
employee in their Department shall be recorded
so that the register will show the net sick
leave credit of every employee which remains
after all his or her sick leave absences have
been deducted from his or her accumulated
sick leave credit.

A plan of sick leave credi·t gratuities is
established for every employee and, subject
to the control of Council, ·the conduct and
management ot the plan shall be vested in
the Personnel Committee

(c) Sick leave benefits may be {lsed to make
up the difference between Workmens Compen-
sation Board Payments, and normal pay for
a period of up to thirty days at the dïs-
cretion of the Head of the Department. After
thirty days continued paymen·ts are ·to be at
-the discre·tion of the Personnel Committee.
(d) No sick leave credits shall be given to an
employee in any month who is absent from duty
in ·that month.
(I) for more than six days for any reason
other than vacation, leave-of-absence; or
(II) without leave.
4. (a) An employee shall report his illness during the
first day on which such employee is absent from
his work.
(b) The Head of a Department may require an employee
to produce a sick leave certificate whenever he
deems necessary.
5. (a) Where an employee having more than three years
consecutive service, ceases to be employed by
the municipality because of retirement or death I
there shall be paid to him or her, or to his or
'her personal representative, or failing a personal
representative, to such other person as the
Council may determine, an amount computed on the
basis of his or her rate of pay at the date of
leaving the emplQY of ·the municipality for a period
equal to 50 percent of the value of his or her
sick leave creditsl but the amount shall not exceed
six months pay.
(b) Where an employee having more than three years
consecutive service leaves the employment of the
municipality for reasons other than retirement
or death, there shall be paid to him or her or
to his or her personal representative, or failing
a personal representative to such other person
as the Councilma.y de·termine, an amount computed
on the basis of his or her rate of pay at the
date of leaving the employ of the municipality
for a period equal to 25 per cent of the value
of his or her sick leave credits but the amount
shall not exceed three months pay.
6, Any employee discharged for cause from employment
with ·the municipality shall at the discretion of
the Personnel Commi·ttee lose and forfeit all
benefits under this by-Law.
7. All previous by-laws having to do with establishing
a Plan of sick leave credit gratui·ties for employees
of the County of Elgin be, and the same are hereby
repealed.
8. THIS By-La", shall become effective on the 31st day
of December, 1965.
