By -Law No. 20-56
"TO AMEND THE SCHEDULE TO BY-LAW NO. 17-11
BEING A BY-LAW TO AUTHORIZE SPEED LIMITS"
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 128(2) of the Highway Traffic Act, being Chapter H.8, R.S.O.
1990, as amended, the Council of a municipality may by by-law prescribe a different rate of
speed for motor vehicles driven on a highway or portion of a highway under its jurisdiction
than is prescribed in Section 128(1 a);
AND WHEREAS the County of Elgin did pass By-law No. 17-11 and amending By-laws No.
18-29, 19-14, 19-19, 19-22, 19-35, 20-24, 20-34 and 20-51 prescribing different rates of
speed for motor vehicles on certain highways under its jurisdictions;
AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to further amend said By -Law to prescribe a different
rate of speed on certain highways under its jurisdiction.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Municipal Council of the Corporation of the
County of Elgin enacts as follows:
1. THAT Schedule "B" of By-law No. 17-11 setting out a maximum rate of speed of
50km/hr be and is hereby amended by removing the following:

2. THAT Schedule "A" of By -Law No. 17-11 setting out a maximum rate of speed of
40km/hr be and is hereby amended by adding the following :

3. THAT the penalties provided in Section 128(14) of the Highway Traffic Act shall apply
to offences against this by-law.
3. THAT this by-law shall become effective once signage setting out the speed limit has
been duly posted.
